Acidity एसिडिटी

ACIDITY - The stomach normally secretes acid that is essential in the digestive process. This acid helps in breaking down the food during digestion. When there is excess production of acid by the gastric glands of the stomach, it results in the condition known as acidity. Dyspepsia, heartburn and the formation of ulcers are some of the symptoms. It is more common in highly emotional and nervous individuals.



  1. Take a tiny piece of jaggery (gur) every hour. Just keep it in the mouth and slowly suck it,see what wonders it can do to keep acidity away. 
  2.  Take a cup of boiled water and add 1 tsp of Aniseed (Saunf) to the water and leave it overnight. On the next morning, filter the water and add 1 tsp of honey to it. Drink it thrice a day.
  3. Drink coconut water 3-4 times a day. Have a plateful of watermelon  and/or cucumber every hour.
  4. Harad juice, 1-2 teaspoon daily after meals is very effective in controlling acidity. The juice can be mixed with an equal amount of amla juice for better results. To take out amla juice, grate an amla and squeeze the pulp through a clean muslin cloth to get juice.
  5. Chewing a piece of harad is an age old remedy.
  6. Take a cardamom and a clove and powder it. Take it like a mouth freshener after having your each meal. Not only this remedy will take care of your acidity but also will keep away bad breath.
  7. Take about 1-½ liters of water and add 1 tsp Caraway seeds (shah jeera) to it. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Drink it while warm at least 2-3 times a day for 5-6 days.

1. Basil Leaves

The soothing and carminative properties of basil leaves can give you instant relief from acidity, gas and nausea.
  • Simply eat some basil leaves at the first sign of acid upset. Be sure to chew them thoroughly.
  • Another option is to boil three to five basil leaves in a cup of water and then let it simmer for a few minutes. You can sweeten this basil tea with honey. Do not add milk, though. Sip it frequently.

2. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is good for your digestive health. It works as a natural antacid and helps dispel stomach gas.
  1. Add half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a cup of water.
  2. Boil it for few minutes.
  3. Drink this cinnamon tea two to three times a day.
You can also add cinnamon powder to your soup or salad.

3. Buttermilk

Another simple home remedy for acidity is buttermilk. It contains lactic acid that normalizes the acidity in the stomach. You can buy buttermilk or make it yourself.
  • Grind half to one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds with a little water to make a paste. Mix it in a glass of buttermilk and consume it to relieve stomach ache caused by acidity.
  • Or, you can simply drink buttermilk several times a day until you get relief. Mix in a little black pepper or one tablespoon of coriander leaf juice for best results.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Though acidic in nature, apple cider vinegar has an alkalizing effect. Thus, it helps treat stomach acidity.
  • Simply mix one or two teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a cup of water.
  • Drink it once or twice a day. You can also drink it before meals.

5. Cloves

Cloves can help alleviate acidity and dispel gas due to their carminative effect that increases hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Contrary to the popular belief, acidity can be caused due to low stomach acid too.
  • Chew two to three cloves thoroughly so that the juices are released into your system.
  • Eating crushed cloves and cardamom mixed in equal amounts can help minimize acid trouble and freshen bad breath that often accompanies this problem.

6. Cumin Seeds

Cumin seeds can also be used to treat acidity as cumin works as a great acid neutralizer. Also, it aids in digestion and relieves stomach pain.
  • Slightly crush some roasted cumin seeds and stir it into a glass of water. Drink it after every meal.
  • You can also boil one teaspoon of cumin seeds in a cup of water, strain it and then drink the water after your meal.
  • Another option is to mix one teaspoon each of coriander seed powder, cumin seed powder, fennel seed powder and some sugar in one-half cup of water. Drink it on an empty stomach.

एसिडिटी का कारण -  आधुनिक विज्ञान के अनुसार आमाशय में पाचन क्रिया के लिए हाइड्रोक्लोरिक अम्ल तथा पेप्सिन का स्रवण होता है। सामान्य तौर पर यह अम्ल तथा पेप्सिन आमाशय में ही रहता है तथा भोजन नली के सम्पर्क में नही आता है। आमाशय तथा भोजन नली के जोड पर विशेष प्रकार की मांसपेशियां होती है जो अपनी संकुचनशीलता से आमाशय एवं आहार नली का रास्ता बंद रखती है तथा कुछ खाते-पीते ही खुलती है। जब इनमें कोई विकृति आ जाती है तो कई बार अपने आप खुल जाती है और एसिड तथा पेप्सिन भोजन नली में आ जाता है। जब ऐसा बार-बार होता है तो आहार नली में सूजन तथा घाव हो जाते हैं।

वजह - गलत खान-पान, आरामदायक जीवनशैली, प्रदूषण, चाय, कॉफी, धूम्रपान, अल्कोहल और कैफीनयुक्त पदार्थों का ज्यादा इस्तेमाल करना है। 

एसिडिटी के लक्षण - एसिडिटी के लक्षणों में हैं सीने और छाती में जलन। खाने के बाद या प्राय: सीने में दर्द रहता है, मुंह में खट्टा पानी आता है। इसके अलावा गले में जलन और अपचन भी इसके लक्षणों में शामिल होता है। जहां अपचन की वजह से घबराहट होती है, खट्टी डकारें आती हैं। वहीं खट्टी डकारों के साथ गले में जलन-सी महसूस होती है। 

 घरेलू उपचार- 

टिप 1: हर तीन टाइम भोजन के बाद गुड जरुर खाएं। इसको मुंह में रखें और चबा चबा कर खा जाएं। 

टिप 2: एक कप पानी उबालिये और उसमें एक चम्‍मच सौंफ मिलाइये। इसको रातभर के लिए ढंक कर रख दीजिये और सुबह उठ कर पानी छान लीजिये। अब इसमें 1 चम्‍मच शहद मिलाइये और तीन टाइम भोजन के बाद इसको लीजिये। 

टिप 3: एक गिलास गर्म पानी में एक चुटकी कालीमिर्च चूर्ण तथा आधा नींबू निचोड़कर नियमित रूप से सुबह सेवन करें। इसके सा‍थ ही सदाल के रूप मे मूली को जरुर शामिल करें। उस पर काला नमक छिडक कर खाएं।

 टिप 4: एक लौंग और एक इलायची ले कर पाउडर बना लें। इसको हर मील के बाद माउथफ्रेशनर के रूप में खाएं। इसको खाने से एसिडिटी भी सही होगी और मुंह से बदबू भी नहीं आएगी।
